Pininfarina Ferrari P4/5 (2006): A Modern Homage to a Racing Legend

The 2006 Pininfarina Ferrari P4/5 by James Glickenhaus is one of the most iconic and exclusive one-off Ferraris ever built. Commissioned by American film director and passionate car collector James Glickenhaus, the P4/5 was designed and manufactured by legendary Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina as a tribute to the classic Ferrari 330 P4—a dominant endurance race car of the 1960s. This stunning supercar blends Ferrari’s rich racing heritage with cutting-edge 21st-century design and engineering.

At its core, the Ferrari P4/5 is based on the high-performance Ferrari Enzo, one of the most advanced hypercars of its era. However, nearly every aspect of the P4/5’s bodywork was redesigned from scratch by Pininfarina to evoke the spirit and curves of the original P-series race cars, resulting in a dramatically beautiful and aerodynamic machine. The carbon fiber body, reimagined headlights, rear clamshell, and unique canopy-style cockpit all pay homage to the 1967 Ferrari 330 P4, while remaining fully functional and road-legal.

Under the hood, the P4/5 retains the Enzo’s 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, producing over 650 horsepower and capable of revving to 8,200 RPM. With its F1-style semi-automatic transmission, ultra-lightweight carbon fiber chassis, and sophisticated aerodynamics, the P4/5 delivers blistering performance, with a 0–60 mph time under 3.5 seconds and a top speed exceeding 225 mph (362 km/h). The car’s suspension and handling were fine-tuned for both track and road use, giving it an extraordinary balance of speed, precision, and comfort.

Inside the cockpit, the P4/5 features a bespoke interior tailored to Glickenhaus’s specifications, including leather-trimmed carbon fiber racing seats, advanced telemetry systems, and unique design elements that blend classic Ferrari motifs with modern luxury. Every detail, from the steering wheel to the digital instrument cluster, was customized to reflect both the past and future of Ferrari performance.

Only one Pininfarina Ferrari P4/5 was ever built, making it one of the rarest Ferraris in existence. It debuted at the 2006 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where it stunned audiences and received global acclaim for its breathtaking design and masterful craftsmanship. Over the years, the P4/5 has become a symbol of bespoke automotive art and a highlight in the history of Ferrari-Pininfarina collaborations.

Whether admired for its engineering pedigree, artistic design, or rarity, the 2006 Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina remains a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that perfectly bridges the golden era of motorsport with the modern supercar age. It continues to inspire enthusiasts, designers, and collectors around the world as one of the most unique and celebrated Ferrari builds of all time.
